Dr. Alleem earned a Ph.D. from the University of Salford, Manchester, UK, and received honorary doctorates from various International Universities in recognition of his achievements in the socio-economic fields. He is widely known as a visionary and thought leader in business, socio-economic, academic and cultural fields.
Dr. Alleem is the chairman of Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority - UAE. He served for over a decade as Director General, Department of Seaports and Customs and Sharjah Free Zones Authority. He was the driving force in transforming the zones into a strategic commerce hub empowering thousands of businesses in the region, thereby contributing to the development of the UAE economy. He has been instrumental in bringing on board over 12,000 companies from across 157 nations attracting a whopping $ 40 billion FDI.
A prolific writer both in English and Arabic, Dr. Rashid Alleem is the author of several books on management and leadership. His recent books are ‘My Green Journey in Hamriyah’, My Leadership Secrets’, Sustainability: The fourth wave of economy and I am committed to the 17 Global Goals.
Acclaimed for his unique leadership qualities, Dr. Alleem has been conferred with the Middle East Business Leaders Awards 2012 as a tribute to his acumen in Training & Human Capital Development. He has also been decorated with the Jewels of Muslim World Award 2012 in Jakarta in recognition of his achievements as one of the top nine movers of the Islamic economics. He was bestowed with the honour of Environmentalist of the year 2012 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in recognition of his contributions towards sustainable environment. Dr. Alleem is recognized as one among the 100 UAE nationals who have contributed immensely to the ‘happiness’ of the UAE, on the eve of the United Nations’ ‘International Day of Happiness’ 2013.
In 2013, he was conferred with ‘Certificate of Knight Award’ for his outstanding contribution in the field of ‘Leadership & Development’ by International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) and also bestowed with the Arab Organisation Award for Social Responsibility from the Arab Organization for Social responsibility in recognition of his CSR initiatives in Hamriyah Free Zone. Dr. Alleem has also been decorated with the coveted ‘2013 Extraordinary Human’ Award by the United Nations-World Peace Organization, Washington, United States on the occasion of international day of people with disability.
Early 2014, Dr. Alleem was conferred with ‘Award of Excellence’ by Daimler-Mercedes Benz Germany for the efforts in protecting the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of Mercedes Benz in the Emirates of Sharjah, UAE. Later in May, Dr. Alleem received the prestigious ‘Global Economic Development Leadership Award’ in Cochin- India.
In a rare tribute to the wisdom reflected in ‘Management in the whole of the Arab World’, Dr. Alleem was honoured with the ‘Golden Arrow Award’ on 18th Feb 2014 in Dubai. On 3rd April, 2014, he was recognized as ‘Goodwill Ambassador for Peace, Care and Relief in GCC Countries, Middle East and North Africa’ by the International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief and Member of the Economic and Social Council of The United Nations. Many people also recognized him as ‘Green Ambassador of the UAE’.

Mr. Ridah Sabouni is the Managing Director, Middle East & North Africa (MENA) of Energetics, based in the Energetics Dubai office. In his role, Mr. Sabouni led the establishment of the Energetics Dubai office and is responsible for Energetics projects across the MENA region. Prior to establishing the Energetics Dubai office, Mr. Sabouni spent 7 years working for Energetics from the company headquarters in the Washington DC area. Mr. Sabouni worked especially close with clients at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), leading teams providing project management, technical, and advanced analyses to support the development of clean energy technologies and energy efficiency best practices. Mr. Sabouni led projects with clients including the DOE Advanced Manufacturing Office, DOE Building Technologies Office, and DOE Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability.
Mr. Sabouni’s professional areas of expertise include industrial and commercial building strategic energy management (including both the ISO 50001 energy management standard and the Superior Energy Performance (SEP) energy certification program), materials research and development (R&D), innovative clean energy manufacturing technology R&D (including solar PV and wide bandgap power electronics and lighting), and smart grid related technology R&D. Mr. Sabouni has significant experience in technical project management, developing analytical tools and models, and performing energy and financial data analysis to support program planning and management. He has helped to coordinate and facilitate over 20 technical stakeholder engagement workshops and has experience evaluating the technical and market potential of new technologies and mentoring clean energy technology startup companies.
Dr.Mohammad Tariq is the Executive Chairman of Paradigm Pioneers Group having interest in Construction, Environmental Services, Financial Services, Education and Trading. In his careers spanning more than two decades, Dr.tariq has been actively engaged in various Technical forums and business councils and is a speaker at various Academic and Business platforms.
An Electronic Engineer by trade, he has a Doctorate in Green Supply Chain Management and is an advocate of Sustainable Development Goals. Amongst Paradigm Pioneers Group Companies, M/s. Stephane le Gentil is Founder and CEO of Wattaqa since November 2016. Wattaqa provides consultancy, advisory and project management services in end-use energy efficiency, energy Demand Side Management (DSM), renewable energy generation and ESCO (Energy Services) activities with a focus on the MENA region. In 2013 Stephane came to Dubai to found and lead Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO) as CEO. Etihad ESCO was setup under the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) as the official government organization to reduce significantly the consumption of electricity and water in 30,000 existing buildings in Dubai. Prior to Etihad ESCO, Stephane spent many years at a leading global Energy Services company to build their European activities. Stephane serves as a member of the board at the Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO) who owns the IPMVP and he is past Chairman of the European Association of Energy Service Companies, eu-ESCO.
Zack Abdi is managing a group of activities include Environmental Awareness to Alternative Energy Solutions, Environmental Solutions, CSR Training and Competency Development for Sustainable Human Resources.
Zack is a regular speaker for Nationalization Program and HR solution and Sustainability & CSR.
Zack is an active advocate in Green Solutions and currently promoting the need to address Water Stress and Water Footprint Solutions, Municipal Solid Waste Collection Process and recycling the waste used cooking and food waste to preserve environmental issues by reducing the Stress on Landfills, and reusing as biodiesel and sterile water and organic fertilizer. Aerosol Cans Recycling to combat HFC and other GHGs is another initiative to address “Global Warming” as per Montreal Protocol initiative.

Zack is a Knowledge Partner for EcoWaste Conference & Exhibition and a speaker at Sustainability Week organized by Masdar and Tadweer of Abu Dhabi. Zack is also aligned with Canadian University of Dubai for their Sustainability Program.
Mr. Frank Wouters has been leading sustainable energy projects, transactions, and technology development for over 25 years. He has played a lead role in development of renewable generation projects valued at over $4.5 billion. These range from small scale PV solar electrification in Uganda to the 100MW Shams I Concentrated Solar Plant (CSP) in the UAE, and strategic equity investment in the London Array, the world’s largest offshore wind project. His transactions have received multiple project finance “Deal of the Year” awards.
As Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the first global intergovernmental organisation dedicated to all renewables, he managed a US$350 million IRENA/Abu Dhabi Fund for Development project facility for RE. He appraised over 80 projects a year and recommended projects for funding, including solar PV projects in Africa. Mr. Wouters has served on the board of several energy companies, including Torresol Energy SA, where he developed three solar plants with an overall budget of US$1.4 billion.
Mr. Wouters has a proven track record of advice to public power sector agencies. As Director of the Masdar Clean Energy Unit, a clean energy company owned by the Abu Dhabi Government, he managed more than US$3 billion of power projects, including solar and wind power projects. He coordinated with government ministers and other stakeholders to promote private sector investment for RE projects as part of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor Initiative. He currently leads the EU GCC Clean Energy Network, a high-level network catalyzing partnerships between EU and GCC energy stakeholders
Rajiv Sawhney took on the role of Landis+Gyr Managing for the Middle East office in October 2007 and is responsible for Landis+Gyr’s Middle East operations.
Prior to joining Landis+Gyr, Rajiv has been responsible in setting up two technology startups in the region having for Gutor Electronics Ltd (A Groupe Schneider Company) and Petrotec in the Oil, Gas & Petrochemical industry. He has previously worked with Wartsila, Siemens and CG Schlumberger.
Rajiv has a career spanning over 27 years, predominantly in the Power sector. He has held key entrepreneurial roles culminating from his versatile strategic business development and product management experiences of which the last 14 years were with P&L responsibilities.
Samantha Yates is the Secretary General of the Global Water Leaders Group, a non-profit organisation which aims to create a better story for water. Samantha was appointed to this role at the inception of the Global Water Leaders Group in January 2013. In this role, she spearheads initiatives for, and research about, water utility performance and innovation amongst the Group’s network of utility CEOs and Water Ministers from around one hundred countries. She is also the Editor of Water Leader magazine which reports on various aspects of the value of urban water and wastewater services and the latest utility performance turnarounds. Prior to this, Samantha worked in various research and consultancy roles including with the Group's Publishing and Events Partner – Global Water Intelligence. Samantha is a regular speaker at international conferences and has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Science in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford
Munira Alblooshi is senior student in the Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Security and Forensics at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Sharjah Women’s Campus. She is a volunteer in Old People House and in Sharjah Centre for Cultural Communication. She has won awards for being a speaker at prestigious local events such as the Leadership and Management Congress (Ajman, 2014) and the Project Management Congress (Sharjah, 2014).
Munira is an energetic, ambitious student and she enjoys learning new things. Making a difference in her community is something she feels passionate about. Over the last few years she has conducted numerous workshops for young female students to encourage them to learn and set inspiring goals. Her vision is to be a successful person who succeeds in IT field, and the most important to think of new ideas and make it happen, change someone’s life who cannot repay.
Rishikesh Dharmendra is an active and aspiring 5th grade student of Our Own English High School, Sharjah. He has won the Best English Calligraphy Award 2016, SpellBee Award 2016 and also volunteering in ECO Club of OOEHS.
Rishikesh enjoys drawing and is a YouTube personality and a Vlogger. He is the new sensational personality in his school with a vision to be a scientist in National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
David began his career in 1999 as a network trouble-shooter for HSBC bank and progressed to managing engineers responsible for the design and deployment of secure networks for the bank’s Retail and Investment Banking divisions. This culminated in a senior project management role responsible for the provision of a global IP video broadcast network spanning 1,800 locations across 40 countries. David joined Cisco in 2007 as a Sales Engineer working with a variety of customers in the Finance, Professional Services, Manufacturing and Utilities industries. Having graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he developed an interest in the unique IT networking challenges faced by the Manufacturing, Oil & Gas and Transportation industries. Since 2013, he has worked in an engineering consultancy and business development role. David supports Cisco’s strategic alliance partners with the creation of joint solutions, addressing customer challenges and executing go-to-market strategy.
Mr. James Philip is an engineering graduate in Instrumentation & Control with around 23 years of experience in the same field. He is also a Certified Foundation Field bus professional.
Mr. James commenced his career in India as a maintenance engineer in a petrochemical plant. He moved to GCC in 1997 and has been primarily working in Measurement and Instrumentation in Kuwait, Qatar and UAE since then.
He has a wide range of experience on Products, Projects, Systems, Project management and Business Unit management. He had a long tenure of around 13 years with ABB in the region and was instrumental to the tremendous success of the designated business unit. Apart from the oil & gas Industry, he has spearheaded numerous water and environmental projects in the region.
He left ABB in the year 2011 to be an entrepreneur and have been successful in taking Belfast Controls to sustainable business. Currently, he heads the Instrumentation and Automation business with offices in Dubai, Abudhabi and Qatar.
Professor Harvey Winters is Professor Emeritus at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey, USA in the School of Natural Sciences. Professor Winters received his PhD degree (1970) from Columbia University, New York in Chemical Biology and did Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Columbia University (1970-72) on micro-fouling of marine surfaces supported by the Office of Navy Research.
Professor Winters began his research interests into Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination in 1976 and eventually became Director of Desalination Technology Transfer Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1980. His research has focused on microbial fouling of RO membranes in seawater applications. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Office of Navy Research (ONR), U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) in Muscat, Oman. He has over 60 research publications and holds one patent in RO desalination
Professor Winters is a reviewer for Journal of Membrane Science and IDA Journal of Desalination and Water Reuse. He has been Director of the International Desalination Association (IDA) and has been awarded two prestigious awards from IDA for most outstanding research papers at the 1995 and 2005 IDA World Congresses on Desalination and Water Reuse.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), by 2050, global energy demand will nearly double, while the water and food demand is set to increase by over 50%. It is a formidable challenge to meet the requirements amid dwindling resources on the one hand and mounting impacts of climate change on the other. The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) continue to experience rapid developments thats evidenced in its many new major industrial, commercial, construction, and agricultural projects. This growth has resulted in a huge demand for water across all Emirates, where surface water resources are nearly non existent. The ageing infrastructure, ever expanding cityscapes, competing needs both for water and energy pose enormous challenges on the utilities and planners.
A blend of scientific and interactive educational sessions, exhibitions, keynote presentations, and panel discussions from a wide array of experts has been planned. Everything from public policy, new technologies and practices regarding energy and water will be featured. Participants will get hands-on learning opportunities where youth and students from across Emirates will present innovations, case study examples demonstrating real projects and solutions. Children and parents can learn about new innovations, explore interactive exhibits. Businesses can network with several scientists, business leaders and solutions providers who will be dawn from across the globe.
Water and energy are so pervasive and touches the life of everyone in the world. Hence this WATER and ENERGY WEEK 2017 invites everyone from every sector to take out their time and participate in this event to share and learn all about water and energy and the ways we can contribute to make our world a better place and ensures sustainable management of water and energy for all and for ever.
