Dr. Sommariva is Managing Director of ILF Consulting Engineers Middle East, member of the board of ILF and the head of the company’s worldwide desalination practice. He has experience in thermal, reverse osmosis and wastewater systems and has served in various roles in all the major desalination developments in the Middle East.
Dr. Sommariva joined ILF in 2009 after working nine years with Mott MacDonald where led the desalination and water treatment group as Managing Director of generation Middle East. In his early career, Dr Sommariva worked in Ansaldo Energia and Italimpianti in various roles.
Dr. Sommariva, who was the President of IDA for the term 2011-2013, served as Co-Chairman of the Technical Program for the 2009 IDA World Congress in Dubai and Chairman of IDA’s recently held conference, “Desalination Industry Action for Good,” a landmark event held in Portofino, Italy that focused on desalination and social responsibility.
Dr. Sommariva has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Genoa University and a Diploma in Management from Leicester University. He is an honorary Professor at Genoa and L’Aquila Universities where he holds regular courses on desalination and economics. He has published over 50 papers on desalination leading edge research and economics and published two books on desalination management and economics.
He has been President of the European Desalination Society (EDS) and chairman of the World Health Organization’s committee for the establishment of safe drinking water from desalination.
In November 2013 Dr. Sommariva was conferred an honorary degree by Herriot Watt University in recognition to his contributions to chemical engineering and the science of desalination.

Dr. Krishnadas Nanath is a currently a faculty and Data Scientist at Middlesex University Dubai Campus in the Information Systems Area (Data Science and MIS). He worked as Assistant Professor at IMT Dubai and is also a visiting Professor at IIM Indore (Dubai Campus) in Information Systems area. He is also the lead corporate trainer for Cloud Computing & Green IT certification courses organized by Global Science and Technology Forum in Singapore. Basically a Computer Science engineer, he had successful professional experiences with Microsoft Research and Honeywell.He also works on consulting assignments as a Data Scientist for firms in UAE. He has been a keynote speaker at several prestigious events in Dubai and international events like TEDx and delivered talks on Green Computing and Social Media Analytics.
He has several awards under his name for his research on Green IT including SAS Ambassador Award for his contribution to Grid Computing modules. Other awards include Best International PhD student Award (by University of South Australia), Wings of Excellence Award (by St. Gallen Symposium, Switzerland), “Emerald Research Fund Award”, “Wipro Earthian Award ”, “TCS Smart Manager” and many more.
Vishal is the Director at GE3S Consultants, a firm working in the field of environment and sustainability. His expertise lies in projects related to climate change mitigation, sustainability, and green buildings. He is well known Green House Gas expert in the region and has successfully delivered several GHG related projects for example carbon footprint, clean development mechanism, carbon neutrality, product carbon labeling etc. He has 15 years of work experience out of which 7 has been in the Middle East. Prior to joining GE3S he led the green buildings and GHG services for Big 4 firm in the middle east.
He holds Masters as well as MPhil Degree in Environmental Science. Vishal is a Lead auditor for ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001. He is also a LEED Accredited professional and a Pearl Qualified professional. He has advised several companies in the UAE to further their sustainability agenda across sectors for e.g. Utility, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Cement, Chemicals, Iron & Steel, waste management, Construction & Real estate, Aviation etc. He has also worked with bilateral and multilateral organizations like UNDP, UNIDO, WWF on environment and sustainability projects."

In addition to her expertise in developing policies, strategies and regulatory framework in Air Quality, Climate Change Adaptation, Waste & Chemicals Management. Aisha had worked in managing BOOT and PPP projects in Sewerage Infrastructure, Sewage Treatment Plants and Waste Management Projects in addition to managing EPCM firms to ensure that the Construction Environmental and Social Management Plan (CESMP) is implemented in Aluminum Industry and the project construction is executed in an environmental compliance with all applicable standards. Currently she is the Director of Green Development Department at the Ministry of Climate change and Environment.
In this role, she was responsible for developing national green development policies and strategies and regulatory framework for transformation to green economy. Also she is developing the necessary policies for the private sector contribution in green development and monitoring the transformation of country toward green economy. Aisha had worked as consultant with different professional firms to develop strategies and master plans for water resources management.
Aisha is holding a master degree in Project management from the British University in Dubai with a and Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain.
Fazil is an energy, climate change and sustainability professional with over 8 years of experience in advisory consulting. Currently he is Assistant Manager with EY’s Middle East and North Africa team. Fazil holds an M.Sc in Electrical Power Engineering from Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (UAE) in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).
Fazil has worked closely with region’s governments and corporates in setting up energy and climate change strategies. During his role as Secretary of Dubai Government’s Technical Committee, he develop Dubai’s Carbon Abatement Strategy. He is one of the first International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) scholars and was awarded ‘Young Future Energy Leader (YFEL)’ by Masdar. Fazil introduced the concept of ‘Demand Response Mismatch’ to the research world, which is published in the IEEE Journal of Smart grids. For developing the concept of 'Self-sufficient villages employing renewable energy', he was awarded by the Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) India."

His international career exposed him to various infrastructure projects like High Voltage Substations, Power Stations, High Voltage Cabling, Power Distribution, Oil & Gas Field Developments as well as specialized projects like Performance Theatres, Embassies, Marine Ports, Office Towers.
P.R. Jagannathan holds a Doctorate in Carbon Management of Building sector and Master’s degree in Engineering; He is a “LEED Accredited Professional” and a qualified "BREEAM International Assessor" with more than 20 years of experience in built environment
He is the Sustainability Manager at Trakhees - Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), a Regulatory authority in Dubai, responsible for overseeing the enforcement of green building regulations across the Ports, customs and Free Zone corporation jurisdiction. His department is responsible for not only developing the green building regulations but also instituting a robust regulatory infrastructure that fosters compliance and promotes true sustainability. Establishing appropriate and region specific regulations, practical stakeholder procedures, critical review & response mechanisms and technical support programs are part of his core responsibilities. Jagannathan is a very strong proponent of "Truly performing buildings" that provides credibility to the green building.
Dr Walter Buydens holds degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Ph D Cornell university), Bio-Engineering, MSc (KULeuven, Belgium) and a post graduate degree in Hydraulic Engineering (IHE Delft, The Netherlands). In addition, he completed the executive MBA program at INSEAD.
Dr Walter started his career in 1981 as Hydrographer for the Ministry of Public Works in Oostende, Belgium. He continued as a water and environmental expert for international organizations: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Niamey, Niger (1984-1987); The Ford Foundation in Pune, India (1990-1991) and The World Bank in Washington D.C. (various missions from 1988 to 1992).
Walter Buydens has been leading two Environmental Consultancies since 1992. First the Anglo-American ERM where he was the managing Director for Belgium, Netherlands and France and the Dutch Royal HaskoningDHV where he became global Director of the Environmental Division.
Since 2011, Dr Buydens has been engaged in the GCC region, first starting up the operations for RoyalHaskoningDHV. From 2014 onwards, he has established and headed the activities of the Belgian headquartered VITO, the international research and consulting centre, which is focusing on today’s major socio-environmental challenges.
Since 1994, he is also guest Professor at the renowned IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in The Netherlands.

Prof.Mohammad Arif is the Head of School for the School of Architecture & Built Environment at the University of Wolverhampton. Prof. Arif has extensive experience in the area of sustainability and that is one of his current areas of research. Prof. Arif has worked in the US, UK and UAE and his work has been recognized worldwide with some highly respected awards.
Prof. Arif has also published his findings in more than 100 articles and attracted million of pounds in research grants. He also serves on several national and international task groups on promotion of sustainability.
